The Dichotomy of Lake Worth

“To the complaint, 'There are no people in these photographs,' I respond, There are always two people: the photographer and the viewer.” ― Ansel Adams

My love of photography isn't limited to just people. The World Around Us (tab up above é) is something that I've always done, but I've recently started to take images of a particular place or objects and "pairing" them. The response has been great!!

The images above of this modern sculpture and the handmade mosaic pathway seemed made for pairing. The dichotomy of Lake Worth never ceases to amaze me. Sleek and modern...handmade and funky. I love wandering around downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods seeing what most people easily dismiss. Take a look at "The World Around Us" and ENJOY!!

Pinterest - a useful Tool, not a wasteful Obsession.

Just looking at my Pinterest boards makes me happy...ya think I like color?   :)

Are you one of the many addicted to Pinterest? Whether you're looking to redecorate a room, planning a wedding, wanting to try different hairstyles, looking for color inspiration for your next painting...it's all there! It's SO MUCH better than just doing a Google images search. On Pinterest you have people with similiar tastes/likes collecting and you just jump on (or jump off - if you are no longer interested in say...lower back tatoos).

I use to rip inspiration out of magazines and even put them into labeled file folders. (Yes, I'm one of THOSE people.) Now, I use Pinterest as my electronic idea board for collecting my art inspiration, all things Christmas, home improvement, yummy food, random goody-ness and of course....photography!!! Everything photography...what inspires me, what I'd like to try, tech stuff, what to wear for session and on...and on. I often point clients in that direction to help with thoughts for their session. It's great for people who are more visual.

I try not to look at it as an obsession...more of a way to organize my creative and cluttered mind with a support network.   ;)

Join the "obsession" and follow along...

A Different Perspective, Downtown Lake Worth

"I think a photography class should be a requirement in all educational programs because it
makes you see the world rather than just look at it." - Author Unknown

I can see so much value in that statement.

I'd love to be able to give a class of 7-12 year olds access to digital cameras and encourage them to show us their world. My girls often ask if they can use my camera. Sometimes I oblige with several conditions. (The strap MUST be worn at all times.) One of our girls is saving up for a point and shoot underwater camera. She really has a passion for it. Another of our younger girls loves to take detail shots of everything she sees. And yet another daughter (remember we've got 5 girls), she wants everyone to pose and have their picture taken.

Being around their creative mom has fed that in themselves. Granted, it's come in spurts and sputters. One child more than the others at times. But, being exposed to art and creativity is so important in children.  I'm not going to elaborate on the value of the arts in general in our schools, rather simply say to parents...please foster opportunities for a different perspective in your children. The results might surprise you.

"I'm With The Band" - Lake Worth Battle of the Bands

I was one of 8 photographers lined up in a room. We were each randomly assigned to one of these 8 contestants for Lake Worth's Battle of the Bands.

I heard several photographers say, "I'm hoping of one of the groups of 3....I don't want that group of 5...too hard to get them all."

I was VERY lucky. I got the band of 5!

This group of men were not only incredibly talented, but so much fun to work with! Tom, Dan, Calvin, Evan & Mike...the members of New n' Used. This amazing South Florida band plays country with a bit of a rock edge.

Before performing at the Lake Worth Theater, we wandered around downtown and found nooks and walls to shoot against. We also lucked out with a great record store. (Yes, I said RECORD.) The owner was incredibly gracious and allowed us to grab a few shots inside.

My thanks to LULA - Lake Worth Arts and the guys for a great opportunity to photograph the band and listen to local music all weekend.

Enjoy!
